We have a TV in our living room with a built-in DVD player specifically for when Tristan (2) needs entertaining. Lately we’ve been using it quite a bit (4+ hours a week), and we try to split the difference between entertainment and educational videos.
Our favorite educational video by far is the Leapfrog video called Word Factory. They also have a Numbers video too. Ian used to watch this one over and over and he learned to read by the time he was 4.
Ian’s in Kindergarten and already does math at a 2nd grade level just from hanging out in our household and thanks to this video and his personality he reads at a 2nd grade level too.
But, I’m not sure if this is a good thing.
At *some point* he’s going to reach a point where he actually has to pay attention and work in school in order to learn and I think that’s going to be a lot harder of a lesson to learn when he’s in high school than in elementary school.
